At the rodeo

I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to or want to say this in the future, but I’m a the rodeo. The Canadian Finals Rodeo to be exact. I really don’t know what to expect—bull-riding, steer wrestling I guess. Some sort of roping stuff. Should be interesting. Unfortunately they don’t allow the use of “detachable lens cameras”, but I’ll try to grab a couple shots anyway. There are a lot of cowboy hats and boots in here. :)

Snowing in Edmonton

While it had been forecast for the weekend, it had held off until now. It is currently snowing—and accumulating—in Edmonton.

After our initial east coast admirations of it, cameras were grabbed and photos taken. Then I realized that this might be the only snow I see until I head home for Christmas, and even then there is no guarentee, what with the unpredictable snow patterns of the last few years.

Hopefully the snow won’t affect me getting to the airport and in turn my flight from departing back to Vancouver.

I bid you all wintery greetings.

50D

The temptation of a province without a provincial sales tax proved to be too much for me this past weekend as I decided not to wait for the increasingly expensive 5D, but instead upgrade to the more realistic Canon EOS 50D. This is a fine camera, and to go along with it, I ended up purchasing the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens which is one of the nicest, highest quality, non L-series lens Canon makes. It apparently contains the same high quality optics, it just lacks the red stripe and the weather sealing.

This one is quite a bit heavier and bulkier than the last one, but it feels right—very solid and even the sound the shutter makes is more satisfying. I have updated my gear page with the new acquisitions and an updated wish list.
